G.R. Indugopan’s novel Aano has won the literary award instituted by the Navodaya Library, West Kallada, in memory of poet and educator D. Vinayachandran. The award selection committee evaluated the novel as a rare work that utilises extensive research to explore the long-distance migration of Malayalis and the historical realities of Malabar during the Renaissance era. The story chronicles the lives of an elephant calf and a group of humans who travelled across the sea from Kochi to Europe on a sailing ship centuries ago. The award, which carries a purse of ₹25,000, a plaque, and a citation, will be presented during the memorial ceremony scheduled to be held on February 11.
