An eight-member gang hacked two men to death while they were consuming alcohol. Five special teams have been formed to nab the culprits.
Police said, Deivendiran, 25, hailed from Kayaodai Pudukudiruppu near Kalayarkovil in Sivaganga district.
He operated a bar in Pollachi, Coimbatore district. Having come to his hometown, he bought a new car.
On Wednesday, he and Poopandi, 25, from Siruvelangudi, who worked at a private financial institution, went to Kodikkadu tank near Sivaganga in the car. There, they sat on the tank bund and consumed alcohol.
At that time, an eight-member gang came to the spot, chased them and hacked them to death. They also damaged Deivendiranās car and escaped.
District Superintendent of Police Abhishek Gupta, DSP Amala Adwin, and Sivaganga Town Inspector Arul Prakash conducted an inquiry at the scene of the crime.
Police added that three pairs of footwear and liquor bottles were found in the area. A mobile phone belonging to one of the culprits was found. The police seized it and have started their investigation.
Further, some people who were grazing goats in the area had informed police that they saw an eight-member gang arriving on three two-wheelers and chasing the two men to hack them.
Regarding this, Mr. Abhishek Gupta said, āFive special teams have been formed under the leadership of DSP Amala Adwin to catch the culprits. We are also collecting and analysing CCTV camera footage in this area. The culprits will be arrested soon,ā he said.
