With Assembly elections only a few months away, the Directorate of Collegiate Education has directed universities and colleges in Kerala to organise student consultation programmes as part of the State government’s Navakerala citizen response programme.

In a formal communication, the institutions have been instructed to conduct student group discussions to collect suggestions and ideas related to governance and development. The consolidated suggestions will have to be uploaded to a citizen response programme portal to enable the formulation of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government’s Vision 2031 policy.

The directive comes close on the heels of a meeting chaired by the Special Secretary of the Information and Public Relations department on Wednesday, during which the modalities of student participation were finalised.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) has been designated as the nodal agency for organising the programmes at the college level. Moreover, the details of students who have registered on the portal and are willing to participate in household surveys must be forwarded to the State-level coordinator of the programme.

Vision 2031

The communication also noted that the State government’s Vision 2031 seminars, which aim to position Kerala as “a progressive and developed State by 2031,” will commence from February 15. Colleges have been instructed to complete student-level discussions and upload consolidated suggestions to the portal before the date.

The order has been circulated to all major universities, including Kerala University, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Calicut University, Kannur University, and other higher education institutions.
