Three judicial officers elevated from the district judiciary were sworn in as judges of the Karnataka High Court by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot at a ceremony held at the Glass House of Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru on Friday.
The new judges are Justices Usharani, Kuruba Shanthappa Bharath Kumar and Nerale Veerabhadraiah Bhavani.
Justice Usharani, who hails from a family of lawyers in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, obtained her law degree from SDM College, Mangaluru, and enrolled as an advocate in 1991. She entered judicial service as a munsiff in 1998, was promoted as a Senior Civil Judge in 2008 and as a District Judge in 2014. Before her elevation, she served as Registrar, Karnataka Lokayukta, and as Principal District and Sessions Judge in Hassan and Mysuru.
Born on October 3, 1976, in Virajpet, Justice Bharath Kumar graduated from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, with a gold medal and enrolled as an advocate in 2002. He joined judicial service as a direct District Judge in 2015. He served in various judicial and administrative roles, including Registrar General of the High Court and Principal City Civil and Sessions Judge, Bengaluru.
Justice Bhavani, born on March 3, 1976, in Mysuru, is the daughter of former High Court judge late N.S. Veerabhadraiah. After obtaining her law degree from NLSIU, she commenced practice as an advocate and joined judicial service as a District Judge in 2015. Prior to her elevation, she served as Principal District and Sessions Judge, Chikkaballapur, and as Principal Secretary to the Government, Department of Law, Justice and Human Rights.
