A total of 23,287 cases, including 1,407 civil cases, were settled in Guntur district during the National Lok Adalat held on Saturday (December 13), creating a new national record.
The district judiciary achieved the landmark disposal of cases under the guidance of Justice Cheekati Manavendranath Roy, executive chairperson of Andhra Pradesh State Legal Services Authority, and Justice Rao Raghunandan Rao, Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court and Administrative Judge for Guntur district, said Judge B. Sai Kalyan Chakravarthi, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Guntur, who led the proceedings of the Lok Adalat here.
According to official data, of the total cases settled, 21,816 were criminal cases and 97 were pre-litigation matters. The settlements resulted in a total realisation of ₹576.85 crore. This included ₹262.04 crore from 338 Motor Vehicle Original Petitions and ₹314.81 crore from 578 cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
Syed Ziyauddin, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Guntur, said two major cases involving crores of rupees were amicably settled during the Lok Adalat, reflecting the effectiveness of conciliation through the legal services system.
The district has shown remarkable consistency in disposing of civil cases during successive Lok Adalats. Guntur had settled 1,076 civil cases on July 5, 2025, and 937 civil cases on September 13, 2025. On Saturday, it surpassed both figures, breaking the record it had created in the previous two sessions and standing first in civil case settlements at the national level.
Among the significant settlements was a motor accident claim related to the death of Naru Ashok in 2024 near Chilakaluripet, which was settled for ₹1 crore against a claim of ₹1.40 crore. Another major settlement involved five cheque dishonour cases worth ₹20 crore between complainant M/s Vignan Education Foundation Trust and opponent P. Raja Rammohan Rao.
