An 11-year-old girl died on Tuesday (September 15, 2026) night after her hair got caught in a generator during a Ganesh procession at Damarapakam village in Nagari mandal of Chittoor district.
The generator set was mounted on a tractor and was running the lights for the procession. Prasanna Sri was sitting close to it, the Nagari police said.
Her hair got entangled in the machine. By the time she was pulled clear she had suffered grievous injuries to the head.

The nearest hospital equipped to treat her was the Sri Venkateswara Ramnarain Ruia (SVRR) Government Hospital in Tirupati, about an hour and a quarter’s drive from the village. She was put in a vehicle and taken there. She died on the way.
The Nagari police have registered a case.
