A handbook on geriatric emergency medicine, written by emergency medicine specialist Sai Surendar, was released at the National Centre of Ageing, Guindy, on Sunday. The book was launched by V.S. Natarajan, senior geriatrician.
Dr. Natarajan said more than 70% of patients admitted to intensive care units were elderly and stressed that early diagnosis and appropriate immediate management could help them recover completely from acute illnesses.
