A State-level handloom exhibition-cum-sale will be held at JSS Mysore Urban from August 26 to September 8 ahead of the Gowri-Ganesh festival.
A statement here said the 14-day exhibition titled ‘Hath Kargha Utsav – My Handloom, My Pride’ will give the people of Mysuru and surrounding areas an opportunity to explore and purchase a wide range of traditional products from different parts of the country under one roof.
The event will be organised with the support of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, New Delhi, in association with the Department of Handlooms and Textiles, Government of Karnataka; Karnataka State Cooperative Handloom Weavers’ Federation Ltd. (Cauvery Handlooms), Bengaluru; Deputy Director, Department of Handlooms and Textiles, Mysuru; and JSS Mahavidyapeetha – JSS Mysore Urban Haat.
“The main objective of the exhibition is to provide better marketing opportunities for handloom products produced by weavers and handloom cooperatives, preserve the traditional handloom heritage, and support the livelihood of weaving families,” said a statement.
More than 60 handloom weavers and artisans from different parts of the country are expected to participate in the exhibition. Visitors will have an opportunity to directly purchase a wide variety of authentic handloom products made by the participating weavers and artisans.
The exhibition will feature popular Karnataka handloom products such as Molakalmuru sarees, Ilkal sarees, silk sarees, cotton sarees, embroidery sarees, bed sheets, floor coverings and many other traditional products.
Also available will be handloom products from various States, including Kanjivaram sarees from Tamil Nadu; handloom products from Kerala; Tussar sarees from Bihar and Jharkhand; Kantha and Baluchari sarees from West Bengal; Banarasi silk and Chikankari sarees from Uttar Pradesh; Chanderi and Maheshwari sarees from Madhya Pradesh; Sambalpuri, Ikat and Bomkai sarees from Odisha; Pashmina shawls from Kashmir; Gadwal, Kalamkari and Pochampally sarees from Andhra Pradesh; and Patola sarees from Gujarat, the statement noted.
Various dress materials and handicraft products made by skilled artisans from different parts of the country will also be available under one roof.
“By purchasing directly from the participating weavers and artisans, visitors can also contribute towards the promotion and preservation of India’s rich handloom and handicraft traditions,” the statement noted.
Entry to the exhibition will be free parking space has also been made available to the visitors.
