The Telangana High Court on Wednesday issued notices to seven MLAs in separate writ petitions challenging the dismissal of their disqualification applications by the Assembly Speaker.

A bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin issued notices to MLAs T. Prakash Goud, A. Gandhi, Tellam Venkat Rao, Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy, Kale Yadaiah, Danam Nagender and Parige Srinivas Reddy.

Mr. Danam Nagender was already issued notices recently by the Bench in a separate writ petition filed by BJP floor leader A. Maheshwar Reddy questioning the Speaker’s order dismissing the application seeking disqualification of Nagender.

The fresh notices to the seven MLAs, including Danam Nagender, were issued in the writ petitions filed by BRS MLAs Kalvakuntla Sanjay, K.P. Vivekanand, Palle Rajeshwar Reddy Chinta Prabhakar, Padi Kaushik Reddy and G. Jagdish Reddy. The Bench led by the CJ issued notices to the Speaker-cum-Tribunal under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.

The MLAs to whom notices were issued were elected on BRS tickets to the Assembly and eventually switched loyalty to the Congress party. The BRS MLAs filed applications before the Speaker of the Assembly seeking their disqualification accusing them of changing the party and citing anti-defection law provisions.

They later moved the Supreme Court seeking direction for speedy disposal of their applications. The Speaker dismissed applications seeking disqualification of these seven MLAs. The division bench directed the seven MLAs and the Speaker to file counter affidavits in the matter by April 16.
