The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has suspended the life sentence imposed on Maoist leader Roopesh by a trial court in Sivaganga district in 2025.
The court was hearing the petition filed by Roopesh who sought suspension of substantive sentence of imprisonment imposed by Principal District and Sessions Court in Sivaganga. The trial court awarded life sentence to the petitioner for the offences under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
He sought the suspension of the sentence and to enlarge him on bail pending disposal of the criminal appeal filed against the trial court judgment.
