1. Karnataka hikes Asian Games medal cash awards; gold medallists to get ₹1 crore
The Karnataka government has increased the cash awards for the State’s Asian Games 2026 medallists, with gold medallists set to receive ₹1 crore, silver medallists ₹75 lakh and bronze medallists ₹50 lakh. For the first time, the government has also sanctioned a ₹5 lakh incentive for each of the 20 Karnataka athletes who qualified for and participated in the Asian Games.
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Deputy Chief Minister and Youth Empowerment and Sports Minister G. Parameshwara felicitated Karnataka athletes who won medals at the Asian Games at Vidhana Soudha on October 6. Along with the enhanced cash prizes, the eight Karnataka medallists will also receive a ₹5 lakh participation incentive.
2. Eight persons, including former chief of Manmul, arrested in ₹3 crore milk powder scam
Eight persons, including the former Chairman of Mandya Milk Union Limited (Manmul) U.C. Shivakumar, have been arrested by the Mandya district police in the alleged milk powder scam estimated to be worth around ₹3 crore. The arrests followed a complaint lodged at Maddur police station on August 30, 2026, by Ashwini, the Assistant Manager of Quality Assurance Department in Manmul, Gejjalagere, about not only shortage in the Union’s milk powder stock but also its adulteration.
Maddur police registered the case under various sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and took up investigation. Superintendent of Mandya district police V.J. Shobharani said the main accused in the case Pradeep Kumar Jadhav, 44, who works as Purchase Officer at Manmul, had allegedly connived with Shivakumar, the former Chairman and present Director of Manmul, to clandestinely divert skimmed milk powder and sell it to private individuals.
3. One more FIR over alleged fake Form-7 applications to delete 136 voters at Malleswaram in Bengaluru
The Yeshwantpur police have registered an FIR against a BJP-linked Booth Level Agent (BLA-2) for allegedly submitting false Form-7 applications seeking deletion of 136 voters from the electoral rolls in Malleswaram Assembly constituency in Bengaluru.
The FIR was registered on October 5 based on a complaint by Anoop Iyengar, 47, a Congress leader and the party’s candidate from Malleswaram in the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections. This is the third such FIR registered in Bengaluru over the issue.
