The State Highways Department has revived its plans to construct two down ramps from the Gandhipuram flyover in Coimbatore city.
The flyover from Nanjappa Road to Ganapathy does not have a ramp for vehicles that want to go to 100 Feet Road or those that want to proceed to Bharathiar Road from Ganapathy. The Highways Department submitted a proposal in 2020 and the government gave administrative sanction to construct the ramps at a cost of ₹23.92 crore and it involved acquisition of 372.60 sq.ft. of land.
The plan was shelved following efforts to establish a metro rail on Sathyamangalam Road. Official sources in the Department said that since the metro rail project for Coimbatore is rejected, they have revived the plans to construct two ramps.
The Department proposes to construct two-lane ramps – one to 100 Feet Road and another to Bharathiar Road. It is looking at acquisition of additional land for the ramp that will go down to 100 Feet Road. There is no need for land acquisition from private land owners for the ramp that will go down to Bharathiar Road, the officials said.
The revised estimate will be finalised shortly and the project will see progress in a month, they added.
