In view of the forthcoming ‘Thai Poosam’ festival at Tiruchendur Subramanya Swamy temple, Hindu Munnani members submitted a petition at the Thoothukudi district Collectorate seeking traffic diversions on Tirunelveli-Tiruchendur route for the welfare of devotees undertaking ‘padayatra” to the temple.
According to the petition, the number of devotees using the Tirunelevli-Tiruchendur route has significantly increased in recent times. Along this route, the stretch from Karungulam to Alwarthirunagari is very narrow, causing difficulties for both devotees and motorists.
They requested that the vehicles coming from Tirunelveli be diverted at Karugulam towards the new road on the left side and that the road stretch from Karungulam to Alwarthirunagari be converted into a one-way route from January 28 to February 1.
They also sought for immediate steps to restore the pedestrian pathways, as many that have been laid at certain locations for the devotees were in a poor condition, forcing the devotees to walk on the main road instead.
