Honest Prajwal Ritti’s photo to be displayed in schools, family to get site

Lakkundi Gram Panchayat has resolved to reward Prajwal Ritti and his family who returned treasure they found during excavation for their house, by displaying Prajwal’s photo in every school and allot a 30 x 40 ft residential plot to the family.

On January 10, Prajwal found a tumbler containing gold ornaments during excavation for reconstruction of their house at Lakkundi village in Gadag district. The ornaments weighing around half a kilogram were believed to be at least 100 years old.

On Thursday, in a special grama sabha in Lakkundi village, members of the Lakkundi Gram Panchayat passed the resolution and also resolved to urge the district in-charge Minister to extend financial assistance to the family to build the house.

The decision of the grama sabha to display the photograph of Prajwal Ritti with a brief information on his honesty is aimed at encouraging and motivating children.

President of Lakkundi Gram Panchayat Kenchappa Pujar has said that the special grama sabha was convened in the village on Thursday to honour the Ritti family which honestly returned the treasure contained in a tumbler to the district administration.

“The decision on allotting a residential plot was passed unanimously. Minister for Law and district in-charge for Gadag H.K. Patil earlier requested the gram panchayat to take a decision on allotting a plot to the family,” he said.

As funds under government schemes will not be sufficient for building a house, it has been resolved to urge the MLA, the district in-charge Minister and the district administration to release assistance of at least ₹10 lakh to ₹15 lakh for building the house, he said.

During the grama sabha, members of Ritti family were honoured by the grama panchayat.

Responding to the honour, Prajwal’s mother Gangavva Ritti said that they were worrying about their future and now that everyone has come forward to extend a helping hand, their fear has gone.

“The panchayat has decided to allot land. Assurance regarding employment and assistance towards building out house has also been given. We are hoping that things will change for good,” she said.
