Hundreds of devotees took part in the annual Kavad Yatra organised by the Marwari Yuva Manch in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.

The procession began at 6 a.m. from the Lord Shiva Temple in Madhavadhara and passed through Thatichetlapalem Junction, Railway Grounds Junction, Telugu Talli Flyover and Sampath Vinayak Temple before culminating it at the Sri Jagannatha Swamy Temple in Siripuram.

Devotees from Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Tuni, Kakinada and Rajahmundry participated in the yatra, the organisers said. They carried pots of holy water mounted on traditional bamboo poles, or kavads, for the ritual bathing of the Shiva lingam, known as jalabhishekam.

The procession was accompanied by chants of “Bol Bam” and “Har Har Mahadev”. At the Sri Jagannath Swami Temple, devotees offered the holy water to Lord Shiva.
