Hyderabad among five major airports where DGCA carried out comprehensive safety audits

Hyderabad was among five major airports where the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) recently carried out comprehensive safety audits, the Union government informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

The audits also covered airports in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Patna, as part of routine surveillance to assess compliance with aviation safety procedures.

This was revealed by Murlidhar Mohol, Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, to a question asked by Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi. The Minister said that the audits did not uncover any major or significant safety violations at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) or the other airports inspected. 

“However, a procedural lapse was observed at Delhi airport during engine maintenance on an Airbus A320-251NX (VT-ICP) aircraft. The lapse involved the non-use of a prescribed borescope inspection tool and the absence of mandatory safety equipment during maintenance activity,” the Minister said.

The DGCA categorised all observations made during the audits as Level II findings and forwarded them to the concerned organisations, ground handling agencies or airport authorities for compliance. “After implementing the necessary corrective measures, the organisations submitted Action Taken Reports (ATRs). All findings have since been closed upon the acceptance of satisfactory ATRs,” he added,

In response to concerns about ramp safety and reporting culture within the civil aviation ecosystem, the Minister said that the DGCA has addressed them through the preparation of the Annual Surveillance Plan (ASP) 2026, along with special audits and unplanned checks.
