Senior BJP leader H. Raja on Monday said the people of Tamil Nadu were fed up and frustrated with the DMK government and it was a prime opportunity for the National Democratic Alliance to emerge victorious in the State in the general election.
Speaking to media persons here, he said the Ministers in the Stalin Cabinet were apprehensive because of the mismanagement and failure to keep their promises. The people were filled with disappointment and anger against the DMK and its allies for their failures.
It was the right time for NDA workers to capitalise on the situation and convince the masses about the need for a change in governance. “If BJP workers approach voters and explain the truth, the people will be convinced,” he said and urged the party cadre to remain vigilant over the next four to five months.
On the issue of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Mr. Raja said the exercise had been carried out at least 10 times since Independence and the BJP had not opposed it even during Congress rule. When names of deceased persons and those who had moved out of Tamil Nadu remained on voter lists, it was the responsibility of the Election Commission to remove them.
It had been estimated that about 70 lakh names might have to be removed from the voter list in Tamil Nadu. There was ample opportunity for voters to verify their status and re-enrol by submitting appropriate forms, he added.
Questioning the need to blame the Election Commission or the BJP for the exercise, he accused the DMK of misleading the public.
Blaming the DMK government for the Thiruparankundram deepam fiasco, Mr. Raja said people were now convinced that the DMK and its allies, under the pretext of secularism, were “anti-Hindu”. The upcoming election, should show them the door and allow a new government to restore the State’s lost sheen.
He further alleged that Tamil Nadu had witnessed over 6,000 deaths due to murders and other criminal offences in the last five years, which reflected the DMK government’s poor law enforcement. The only solution was to defeat the ruling party in the election.
