K. Anbalagan, former Tahsildar of Madurai (South), who is now serving as Deputy Collector in Ramanathapuram district, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the alleged illegal registration of a multi-crore land belonging to a trust serving Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai.
Police said Anbalagan had been admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital after he complained of uneasiness. He is the third accused to be arrested since Sunday in connection with the fraudulent registration of the 1.79-acre land owned by Pudukottai Rajakumarar Dakshinamurthy Durairaja Durairani Trust in 2021.
The then Tahsildar was the 12th accused in the case registered on July 27, 2026. He has been charged with cheating and criminal conspiracy.
The other accused arrested in the case are V. Rajkumar, 63, of Karambakudi in Pudukottai district and S. Ilayaraja, 43, of Vilangudi. Madurai City Central Crime Branch police have registered a case against 19 persons, including the then officials of the Department of Registration in Thoothukudi and Dindigul districts, and a Village Administrative Officer in Madurai city.
