CPI(M) State secretary V. Srinivasa Rao on Sunday wrote a letter to the Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission Chairperson Rayapati Sailaja, urging her to ensure the effective implementation of internal committees under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act in political party offices across the State.

In his letter, Mr. Srinivas Rao welcomed the Commission’s efforts to amend and strengthen the POSH Act for wider application in Andhra Pradesh. He highlighted that although political parties were currently exempt, CPI(M) has voluntarily adopted the law’s spirit and implemented it across its offices in the State.

He said that since the law came into effect, the party had taken necessary measures for compliance. During the 2018 CPI(M) All India Conference, the party had passed a resolution to implement the law in all party offices nationwide. Consequently, internal committees were established at the central, State, and district levels, including Andhra Pradesh, with boards publicly displayed at the State office.

Mr. Srinivas Rao stressed the growing need to prevent sexual harassment at workplaces, especially in political environments, and requested the Commission’s guidance to ensure all parties comply. He called for monitoring measures to protect women employees and activists, particularly those entering politics, from any harassment or misconduct by senior or influential individuals.

The CPI(M) leader expressed hope that the Women’s Commission would pay special attention to the establishment of internal committees in all political party offices and ensure that women were provided with a safe and supportive working environment.

A copy of the board displayed at the CPI(M) State office was attached to the letter for reference.
