Sending a strong message to anti-social elements, including first-time offenders of stern action, Superintendent of Police Abishek Gupta has said that in the last 30 days alone, they had detained 21 persons under the Goondas Act.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the SP said that various preventive measures were undertaken continuously by the teams across all the 39 police stations in the district. No one will be spared if found guilty of any criminal offences. Be it robbery, theft or caste conflicts, law would be enforced strictly.
The SP said that based on the nature of the criminal cases, Inspectors, Sub-inspectors and personnel were individually nominated to monitor such persons and prevent them from indulging in further criminal activities.
In Sivaganga district, 35 history-sheet offenders, who had been continuously posing threat to the public, were arrested during the last one month, from September 1 to 30. Further, special teams were formed to execute long-pending court warrants against offenders, who had been absconding and failing to appear before the Court for a long period.
Court warrants against 10 such offenders were executed and they were remanded to judicial custody.
Mr Abishek Gupta said that special teams were formed to apprehend offenders involved in day-time and night-time thefts and those who were absconding, and to recover stolen properties from them. The police teams analysed continuous CCTV footage and other technical data, based on which offenders involved in 12 cases were identified.
A total of 21 persons were arrested and stolen properties were recovered from them.
The SP said, in cases where persons facing several criminal cases had been released on bail by the court and subsequently continued to indulge in criminal activities, appropriate legal action was taken for cancellation of their bail. Petitions were filed before the court and the bail granted to six persons were cancelled.
Further, around 100 history-sheet offenders and problematic persons were identified and produced before the Tahsildar, and bonds were obtained from them to prevent them from indulging in further criminal activities.
