The Indian Wind Power Association has welcomed the State government’s amendments to Tamil Nadu Repowering, Refurbishment, and Life Extension Policy 2024, which would propel T.N. as a leader in wind energy sector and enhance renewable energy installations across the State.
In a press release, T. Shivaraman, the association’s chairman, thanked the government for issuing key amendments to the policy that addressed several critical concerns raised by industry stakeholders.
The continuation of annual banking for repowered turbines and the reduction in infrastructure development charges will significantly encourage repowering activities.
Wind energy generators opting for life extension were to pay the infrastructure development charge at ₹30 lakhs/MW every 5 years, according to the original policy. This has now been reduced to ₹50,000 per MW per annum. The life‑extension certification process has been simplified and made relevant for the old turbines, he said.
