Criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the recent transfer of IPS officer Bushra Bano for her Islamic salutations, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday (September 17, 2026) said “her words rattle a party so large and powerful”.
“Bushra Bano’s transfer after saying “Assalamu Alaikum”, “InshaAllah” and “JazakAllah”, followed by the West Bengal CM calling an election a “test” of Muslim loyalty , a veiled threat to the community as a whole doesn’t shock us anymore,” said Ms. Mufti.
Vocabulary policed
Ms. Mufti said she was amused that “three simple words “peace be upon you”, “God willing”, and “God be praised” can apparently rattle a party so large and powerful.
“First our food, clothes and marriages, now even our vocabulary and our votes are being policed. Insecurity, thy name is BJP,” said Ms. Mufti.
Ms. Bano, who was posted as Additional SP of Kharagpur in Paschim Medinipur district, has been transferred to the post of Deputy Commandant, SAP 4th Battalion.
