Indian Space Research Organisations (ISRO) centres in Thiruvananthapuram are jointly organising this year’s World Space Week (WSW) celebrations from October 4 to October 10 on the theme ‘Rocket Revolution.’
Events planned as part of the celebrations include lecture sessions, ‘Your Space’ programme for students and a public outreach programme. ISRO centres, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), ISRO Inertial Systems Unit (IISU) and Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology ((IIST), are organising the events.
Interactive lectures
Interactive lecture sessions are planned for students across Keralam, in both on-campus and online mode. Lectures will be delivered by scientists from the four centres from October 6 to October 10. ‘Your Space’ event gives students the opportunity to present their thoughts on a selected topic. Schools are invited to register for the events through website wsweek.vssc.gov.in. The public outreach event is planned on October 10 at the Kerala State Science and Technology Museum, Thiruvananthapuram.
A sounding rocket launch is also planned at TERLS, VSSC, as part of this year’s events. WSW is celebrated worldwide from October 4 to 10 every year to commemorate the launch of Sputnik, the first artificial satellite, on October 4, 1957, and the Outer Space Treaty which came into force on October 10, 1967.
