YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries, at his residence here on Thursday.
Mr. Jagan garlanded the portraits of the two leaders and recalled their contribution to the country. He said Mahatma Gandhi’s struggle for India’s freedom through non-violence and Lal Bahadur Shastri’s leadership, symbolised by the slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’, would remain an enduring example for generations.
He recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s role in the freedom movement and Lal Bahadur Shastri’s contribution to nation-building, and paid homage to the two leaders.
MP P. Mithun Reddy, MLC Lella Appireddy, and party leaders V. Srinivasa Rao, K. Kannababu, Malladi Vishnu, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, and Devineni Avinash were among those who paid tributes.
At the party central office, the leaders alleged that the coalition government had undermined the Gandhian values of non-violence and democracy in Andhra Pradesh. They alleged that farmers, employees, students and women were being intimidated when they raised their voice.
They criticised the “Red Book rule” and alleged that the government was suppressing dissenting voices. They also alleged that Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of Gram Swaraj and schemes named after him were being neglected.
Referring to Lal Bahadur Shastri’s resignation following a railway accident, the leaders questioned the continuation of Mr. Lokesh in office despite alleged irregularities in the conduct of DSC-2025.
