Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) working president T. Jagga Reddy, on Wednesday, alleged that the BJP-led Central government was attempting to erase the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru by “diluting the spirit of welfare schemes introduced by the Congress”.
A massive public meeting would be held in Sangareddy soon to highlight the contribution of the Gandhi family to the nation, he said.
Addressing the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, he said that the Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), which he stated provides employment to nearly eight crore people, was introduced during the UPA regime under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has removed Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the scheme, he said, and accused the BJP of systematically undermining the contributions of leaders associated with the Freedom Movement.
Mr. Jagga Reddy claimed that the BJP leadership was conspiring to eliminate Mahatma Gandhi from the nation’s historical narrative. He asserted that Rahul Gandhi would be elected Prime Minister with a majority of 300 MPs in the next general elections, claiming that people across the country were disillusioned with the present regime.
