MBBS students of Government Medical College (GMC), Jagtial, staged a sit-in at the permanent campus construction site, demanding the speedy completion and handover of the college and hostel buildings with fully equipped laboratories, transport and other essential facilities.

The students said that nearly four years after the foundation stone was laid, the campus remains incomplete, devoid of proper roads, drainage and recreational facilities.

With a new batch expected to join shortly, five batches of medical students would have to share three makeshift lecture halls and three laboratories, they said.

Hostel accommodation is also strained with six to eight students reportedly sharing a room, they rued.

The students sought the completion and commissioning of the academic building by December 2026 and the handover of the hostel buildings by October 2026.

They also demanded dedicated buses for mandatory field postings and visits under National Medical Commission (NMC) norms.

They said the peaceful protest would continue until their demands were addressed.
