Aimed at delivering faster and more accurate diagnostic reports, the State-run Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research has installed a new-generation blood testing analyser.

The NABH-accredited institute has commissioned the Roche Cobas Pro system in its Biochemistry Department, a technology that enables high-throughput and rapid analysis of blood samples. The installation is expected to significantly reduce turnaround time for diagnostic reports at the tertiary cardiac care centre, which handles a heavy patient load every day.

Director of the institute B. Dinesh said around 1,800 to 2,000 patients undergo laboratory investigations daily at Jayadeva. “With the increasing number of patients, there is a need to enhance laboratory capacity so that reports can be delivered within the shortest possible time. This system will help us achieve that,” he said.

The Roche Cobas Pro analyser allows multiple blood tests to be conducted simultaneously and effectively doubles the laboratory’s processing capacity. The system ensures high accuracy while analysing samples in a significantly shorter time compared to conventional analysers.

Dr. Dinesh said faster availability of test results would help doctors examine more patients efficiently and improve clinical decision-making. “In emergency situations, timely access to diagnostic reports is critical. This technology will enable quicker initiation of treatment, which can be life-saving,” he said.

The installation of the advanced analyser is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen diagnostic services and improve patient care at the institute, particularly in view of the growing demand for cardiac and related investigations, Dr. Dinesh added.
