JD(S) leaders are expecting a huge turnout of party supporters for the rally which will be held on the outskirts of Hassan city on January 24 to mark the party’s silver jubilee celebrations.
A pandal has been put up to accommodate over one lakh persons. The organisers are expecting over 1.5 lakh persons from different parts of the district.
K.S. Lingesh, the party’s district president and former Belur MLA, told the media that the rally is being organised as per the wishes of party supremo and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda. It is being organised under the guidance of Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy and leadership of former Minister H.D. Revanna.
Party legislators, former legislators, and other senior leaders will attend the event. Mr. Gowda will travel to Hassan by a chopper on January 24 and visit Deveshwara Temple at his native place, Haradanahalli, in Holenarasipur, before attending the rally. Mr. Kumaraswamy, who visited Hassan on January 21 and reviewed the preparations, will address the rally.
The rally is being viewed as the party’s counter to the ruling Congress party, which has held two rallies in Hassan since it came to power in 2023. Mr. Gowda has often stated that the Congress chose Hassan to hold rallies with the objective of weakening the JD(S) in Hassan, considered to be the bastion of the party.
Mr. Kumaraswamy said the people of Hassan had always stood by his father, Mr. Gowda, in his six-decade-long political career. Through the rally, the party will send a message to its workers across the State ahead of local body elections.
The district police have made elaborate security arrangements for the event.
