Tirupati District Collector S. Venkateswar has appealed to citizens to join the movement to make the temple city cleaner and greener.

As part of the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, Mr. Venkateswar announced the winners of the Swachh League competitions conducted by the government to promote cleanliness at various levels at a function held at the Kachapi auditorium here on Friday.

Noting that the prizes were meant for corporations, municipalities and gram panchayats, Mr. Venkateswar recalled that Tirupati had figured among the ‘Top 3’ in 2024 and 2025 and urged citizens to help the city continue its winning streak.

Accompanied by Tirupati Municipal Corporation Commissioner M. Jayakrishna, TTD Trust Board member Panabaka Lakshmi, AP Greening and Beautification Corporation Chairperson Mannuru Sugunamma, AP Yadava Welfare Corporation Chairman G. Narasimha Yadav, AP Nayee Brahmin Welfare Corporation Chairman Rudrakoti Sadasivam and SVBC Chairman B. Sridhar Varma, Mr. Venkateswar administered a pledge to citizens to keep the city clean and green.

“In spite of the best financial support from the government and the best manpower and equipment at the disposal of the local bodies, cleanliness is not possible without the cooperation of the citizens,” he said.

Tirupati generates about 250 tonnes of waste every day, of which only 70-80 tonnes is processed. Mr. Venkateswar appealed to residents, traders, hoteliers, street vendors and office-goers to segregate waste at source to facilitate its proper and scientific disposal.

Awards were presented to startups in waste management, social media influencers, hotels, community soak pit managers, village organisations, schools, bus stations, Rythu Bazaars, green ambassadors, hospitals, industries, sanitation workers, colonies and other categories.
