Senior Congress leader Jagga Reddy strongly refuted K. Kavitha’s claim that he had joined the party “due to personal anger against former minister Harish Rao”, and called the statement “false and misleading”. He said that he joined the Congress after being invited by former CM Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
Addressing the media on Sunday, Mr. Jagga Reddy clarified that his decision to quit the TRS had no connection whatsoever with Mr. Harish Rao. “Harish Rao’s politics and my politics are entirely different. I neither left the party out of anger nor in opposition to him,” he asserted.
Taking a swipe at Ms. Kavitha, Mr. Jagga Reddy said that she rose in politics as KCR’s daughter, while he had built his political career independently. “Why am I being dragged unnecessarily into your internal disputes?” he asked.
Explaining the real reason behind his entry into the Congress, Mr. Jagga Reddy credited YSR, who was impressed by his political standing, and invited him to join the party promising major development initiatives, including an IIT and a four-lane highway for the region.
He said that political rivalry between him and Mr. Harish Rao had continued in the district, alleging that the latter attempted to politically corner him after the successful meeting of Rahul Gandhi in Sangareddy.
Stating that he believed in “direct politics”, Mr. Jagga Reddy said he was disturbed by certain recent developments but would reveal all details at an appropriate time. “I will speak in May. Once I take a decision, I never turn back,” he declared, adding that he was not interested in positions like campaign committee chairman.
