Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Ponguru Narayana said that Juvvaladinne village of Bogole mandal in SPSR Nellore district would be developed as a tourist destination, after offering tributes to Potti Sriramulu on his 73rd death anniversary at the memorial building, here on Monday.
More detailed discussions will be held with Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu after examining the location at field level, the Minister added. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “To mark the 58 days of his hunger strike, 6.8 acres have been allocated for the installation of a 58-foot statue within the CRDA limits in Amaravati and the work will be completed very soon.”
He said that Potti Sriramulu had laid the first step towards the formation of the States based on the language. Along with the Minister, Kavali MLA (Kavya) D.V. Krishna Reddy also paid homage to the statue of Potti Sriramulu in Juvvaladinne, which is close to Padamatipalli, the birthplace of freedom fighter known as ‘Amarajeevi’.
Meanwhile, State Social Welfare Minister Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy paid floral tributes to a statue of of Potti Sriramulu opposite the local CVN reading room in Ongole. “The Telugu State was born as a result of his sacrifice. He went on a hunger strike for 58 days demanding a separate State for all the people who spoke Telugu language,” he said on the occasion.
Prakasam District Collector P. Raja Babu, Santhanuthalapadu MLA B.N. Vijay Kumar, Giddaluru MLA Muthumula Ashok Reddy and other leaders also laid floral garlands on the statue and offered tributes.
