Kadayanallur union chairperson, deputy, councillors oppose Chief Minister’s photo in council hall

The Kadayanallur panchayat union council meeting had to be adjourned on Monday as the chairperson, vice-chairman and councillors staged a walkout in protest against the hanging of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s photo in the council meeting hall.

As the photo of Mr. Joseph Vijay has been put up in all government offices, including chambers of Collectors and Superintendents of Police in all districts, it was fixed behind the chairperson’s seat in the council hall of Kadayanallur panchayat union also. As the council meeting of the panchayat union was scheduled to be held on Monday, Vice-Chairman Aivendran Dinesh entered the hall first and saw the photo of the Chief Minister hanging on the wall.

He asked the panchayat union officials about it and then removed the photo and asked his assistant to keep it somewhere.

Commissioner Selvaraj, who entered the hall, was shocked to see the photo removed from the hall. When he started enquiring about it, Mr. Dinesh said he had removed it. “It is with my assistant. You may hang it there after the end of today’s council meeting.”

Mr. Selvaraj made it clear that the meeting would begin only after the Chief Minister’s photo was fixed and asked his assistant to hang the photo behind the chairman’s seat.

Opposing it, Mr. Dinesh, chairperson Subbammal and councillors Singilipatti Manikandan, Arunachala Pandian, Shanmugaiah, Mariammal, Mariselvi and Chithra staged a walkout. Subsequently, the meeting was adjourned.
