The Department of Tourism Studies of Karnatak Arts College, Karnatak University, Dharwad, has received the Karnataka Tourism Award-2026 in the category of ‘Best Educational Institution in Tourism’ in the State.
The award was presented at the World Tourism Day celebrations, held at Palace Grounds in Bengaluru on September 27.
In the presence of Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Energy and Tourism Minister K.J. George presented the award to Head of the Department of Tourism Studies Jagadish Kivudanavar and principal of Karnatak Arts College I.C. Mulagund.
Established in 2007, the department has been contributing to the development of skilled human resources for the tourism and hospitality sectors through quality education and industry-oriented training.
The department provides students with practical exposure through industrial visits, internships, field studies, workshops, seminars and collaborations with industry partners.
Its academic and outreach activities encompass sustainable tourism, heritage conservation, digital tourism, religious tourism and innovation in tourism education, a release stated.
The award recognises the collective efforts of the department’s faculty, students, alumni, industry partners and the university administration, the department said.
Rani Ravishankar and Kedar Nath Angadi were among those present at the award ceremony.
