A new Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) built at a cost of ₹1.8 crore was inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin through video-conferencing at Kattur on Friday. The day witnessed the launch of new buildings and improvements at government hospitals in Thanjavur and Kulithalai.
School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and local administration officials attended the inaugural ceremony and inspected the building. The Minister later gifted nutrition kits to expecting mothers at the UPHC.
Among the facilities being offered are Inpatient and Outpatient wards, a waiting area, laboratory, pharmacy, counselling room, conference hall, and separate sections for yoga, naturopathy, and Siddha.
“We are aiming to achieve National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification for this UPHC soon. At present, eight of the 20 UPHCs in Tiruchi district have obtained NQAS. We are stocking up on adequate numbers of anti-rabies vaccines and anti-snakebite venom vials,” City Health Officer Subhash Gandhi told The Hindu.
The health centre will be manned by a doctor, four staff nurses, a lab technician, and pharmacist, besides support staff.
The funding for the UPHC was provided by National Urban Health Mission. Buildings worth ₹12 crore were added to the Government Raja Mirasudar Hospital in Thanjavur on Friday. The inauguration ceremony was attended by District Collector B. Priyanka Pankajam, Thanjavur Medical College Hospital dean Poovathi and senior officials.
The new additions include a double-storey 100-bed Women and Children’s Wellness centre. At Kulithalai, a new 300-bed hospital building was inaugurated at the Government Headquarters Hospital premises. It was built at an estimated budget of ₹40 crore on Friday.
Karur District Collector M. Thangavel, V. Senthilbalaji, MLA and senior officials were present at the inaugural ceremony.
The hospital receives between 800-1,000 outpatients a day and has approximately 150-200 inpatients. It is built on a 1,09,125 sq. ft. site and has separate departments for orthopaedics, general medicine, and blood bank. The Chief Minister declared open an additional building for the District Headquarters Government Hospital in Mayiladuthurai. The ground plus seven floor building was built at a cost of ₹45.50 crore.
It would house a diagnostic lab, paediatric intensive care unit, dialysis unit, and a small operation theatre besides other facilities. Collector H.S. Srikanth and MLAs Nivetha M. Murugan and S. Rajkumar were present.
