To prevent political clashes post-counting, the police have deployed additional patrol squads in all politically sensitive areas of Kozhikode district. Vehicle checks will continue with the support of enforcement squads, along with an intensified vigil along the district borders.
“The bomb detection and disposal squads are on the field conducting flash inspections in suspected areas. Plainclothesmen and shadow patrol squads are also monitoring the situation, including the sale of firecrackers,” said a senior police officer. He added that police presence would be ensured at all major venues of victory celebrations in the days to come.
As an additional security measure, Station House Officers have already put under the scanner a number of local political activists who were earlier nabbed in connection with political clashes. Late-night processions and victory celebrations will be banned in politically and communally sensitive areas, he said.
