Officials and priests of Sri Kalyana Venkateswara temple at Srinivasa Mangapuram show the new curtain to be adorned to the threshold in the sanctum sanctorum on Thursday, ahead of the annual Brahmotsavams.
Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam, the customary purificatory ritual ahead of the annual Brahmotsavams, was performed at the TTD’s Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy temple, at Srinivasa Mangapuram, near Tirupati, on Thursday.
As part of the ritual, the temple premises, including the walls, pillars and ceiling, were cleaned by splashing water and then a rich mixture prepared with aromatic substances such as ‘Namam’ powder, ‘Srichurnam’, ‘Kasturi’ turmeric, ‘Pachaaku’, edible camphor, sandalwood powder, vermilion, ‘Kicherigadda’, etc., was sprinkled all over.
M. Subramanyam, a local tailor, donated two curtains and two ‘Kuralams’ (ceiling cover) to the temple on the occasion, which were received by the Special Grade Deputy Executive Officer V. Varalakshmi, Vigilance Officer B. Giridhar, and Assistant Executive Officer Gopinath.
A curtain will be adorned to the main threshold in front of the sanctum sanctorum housing the presiding deity of Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy, while the ‘Kuralam’ will be used to cover the ceiling.
The nine-day Brahmotsavams will begin with ‘Dhwajarohanam’ on February 8, while the important events are ‘Simha Vahanam’ (Februray 10), ‘Kalpa Vriksha Vahanam’ (February 11), ‘Pallaki Utsavam’ and ‘Garuda Seva’ (February 12), ‘Swarna Ratham’ (February 13), and ‘Rathotsavam’ (February 15).
