The Konkani Bhas Ani Sanskriti Prathistan will organise the ‘Konkani Manyata Divas’ program at the Vishwa Konkani Kendra in Shaktinagar, Mangaluru, on August 20.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, chief convener of the programme B.R. Bhat said that Konkani was included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution on August 20, 1992, and the ‘Konkani Manyata Divas’ was observed to mark the day.
Mr. Bhat said the programme would begin with flag-hoisting and the singing of Konkani songs. Members of the Konkani Reading Group from Sujir C.V. Nayak Hall would present a short Konkani skit. As many as 10 teams from different schools in and around Mangaluru would present a variety of cultural programs. Kaushalya, a student of SVT School in Karkala, who studied Konkani as a third language from Class VI to X and scored 100 marks in it, would be felicitated. She would also be given a scholarship.
Konkani author Anant Agni, who won the Dr. T.M.A. Pai Best Konkani Book Award this year, would deliver the keynote address. Author Melwin Rodriguez would also take part, Mr. Bhat said.
