The Kerala School Teachers’ Association (KSTA) organised a march to the Secretariat and to district centres on Saturday raising a slew of demands.

The march and dharna in which scores of teachers participated and raised slogans was held to protest the “anti-people” policies of the Union and the State governments.

The KSTA also demanded job security for teachers; rejection of the National Education Policy, 2020; repeal of the PFRDA Act and implementation of the Old Pension Scheme, pay revision, and of the order sanctioning dearness allowance arrears; and transparent transfer procedures.

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) government paid financial benefits to teachers and other staff despite the financial crisis caused by the Union government withholding funds to the State. However, the United Democratic Front (UDF) government had decided to commercialise the education sector, make it unappealing, and a tool for communalisation, the KSTA alleged.
