Kurnool district police recovered 589 mobile phones worth ₹1.20 crore and handed them over to their owners on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Patil said that a total of 3,670 mobile phones worth ₹7.36 crore were recovered and handed over to their owners in the six phases so far as part of the mobile recovery programme. The SP said the District IT Core Team, Cyber Lab police, and local police were working in coordination to trace lost or stolen mobile phones.

Mr. Vikrant Patil said that mobile phones were recovered and brought from other States including Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan, in addition to Andhra Pradesh.

He said that in current times, a mobile phone is not merely an object of monetary value, as it also contains crucial information such as banking details, phone numbers, photos, videos, and personal data.

The SP urged the public not to panic if they lose their mobile phones or if it gets stolen. “A person should immediately register the mobile’s IMEI number and other details on the Central Government’s Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. The police would take measures to track and recover the mobile phone based on the details registered on the CEIR portal,” he said.
