The terminals of the Kochi Water Metro at Kadamakudy and Paliamthuruth are ready for commissioning, while the work on their approach roads is in the final stage, according to metro officials.

The piling works are also progressing on the ferry terminal proposed near Subhash Bose Park in the city. Twenty of the 23 Water Metro ferries are in service, while the Cochin Shipyard is expected to hand over another vessel in December. The other two ferries are expected to be handed over in June 2028, they said.

Tenders have been floated to procure 15 more 100-passenger ferries. A total of 77.70 lakh people travelled in water metro ferries since their launch in April 2023, officials said.

The agency officials said a feasibility report for water metro systems in 18 cities had been prepared by Kochi Water Metro Limited (KWML).

A feasibility study will be done for Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Pre-feasibility studies were done in Penang, Malaysia, and in the Mekong River, Vietnam.

A meeting chaired by G. Priyanka, District Collector, who is also holding charge as managing director of KMRL, reviewed the progress of the projects on Saturday (October 3, 2026).
