The elderly, physically-challenged and the sick passengers are made to slog for long distance from one platform to another at Virudhunagar railway junction as the battery-operated car has been rendered “out of order” for long.

The car had been useful to ferry young children, old passengers, pregnant women and those carrying heavy luggages from one platform to another through the trolley pathway at the end of the platforms.

The junction has been handling several trains, including Vande Bharat, express trains from Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanniyakumari, Coimbatore, Chennai and Bengaluru and passenger trains to various places like Sengottai.

The battery-operated car had higher utility considering that the junction lacked lift and escalator facility. The passengers were ready to pay â‚č10 to cross the platforms and to get picked up and dropped at the entrance. They are put to untold sufferings as the car is not being operated for the last few weeks. In addition to walking for longer distance, the passengers are also forced to lug their luggage all the way.
