A court here has awarded life imprisonment to two persons for murdering a DMK functionary.
According to prosecution, unidentified persons burgled gold ornaments and silver articles from the house of G. Mariselvam of Sudalaiyapuram under Thalamuthu Nagar police station on May 13, 2015 and the police investigation apparently revealed that one Alex, son of DMK functionary Jesuraja, 52, of nearby Siluvaipatti, had stolen the valuables.
When Mariselvam and his friend Arun Singh, 33, of Sudalaiyapuram went to Jesuraja’s house and asked him to return the stolen articles, Jesuraja shouted at them and asked them to get it from Alex. As it led to a heated argument, Mariselvam and Arun Singh hacked Jesuraja to death. The Thaalamuthu Nagar police arrested Mariselvam and Arun Singh.
Second Additional Sessions Judge Preetha awarded life imprisonment to Mariselvam and Arun Singh on Monday and slapped a fine of ₹7,500 each.
