Dindigul district has been experiencing severe heat reminiscent of the ‘Agni Nakshatram’ (peak summer). Light to moderate rainfall was recorded on Monday and Tuesday in the district, which provided much-needed respite from the scorching heat.

Light to moderate rain lashed Dindigul for about an hour and a half on Monday night. It resulted in waterlogging in many parts of the city and other parts of the district. Vehicle users and pedestrians faced hardship particularly near the Anjali roundabout bridge in Dindigul due to waterlogging.

In Sakthi Balaji Nagar, located in Chettinaickenpatti panchayat near Dindigul, rainwater had stagnated in the area. The area had turned into a pond. Residents blamed the lack of a proper drainage system for the current situation. They said they were unable to step out of their homes due to waterlogging.

Rainwater frequently becomes stagnant in the underpass on the Old Karur Road whenever it rains, and the authorities are forced to drain the water. Due to overnight rain on Monday, the place again turned into a pond. The vehicle users were unable to use the stretch as a result and had to find an alternative route to reach their destination.

Light to moderate rain also lashed other parts of the district which included Kodaikanal, Palani, and Vedasandur. A total rainfall of 255.36 mm was recorded in the district.
