A lorry driver was arrested by Shankarampet Police in Medak district in connection with a road accident that claimed the lives of four members of a family on Saturday (December 13) evening while they were travelling from Hyderabad to their native Nizamsagar in Kamareddy district to cast their vote.
The deceased were identified as Kurma Lingamaiah, 48, his wife Kurma Saiamma, 42, and their children Kurma Sai, 15, and Kurma Manasa, 13. Police said the accident occurred around 7.30 p.m. at Kollapally village on National Highway 161.
According to the police, the accused driver, L. Ishwar, was driving the lorry on the highway without indicators or lights. The family was travelling on a two-wheeler, which rammed into the vehicle from the rear. Investigation revealed that Sai, a minor, was riding the two-wheeler and failed to notice the lorry in time, leading to the collision.
Police said preliminary findings pointed to negligence on the part of both the rider and the lorry driver. A case has been registered and further investigation is under way.
