Mamata All India Trinamool Congress on Sunday (October 11, 2026) accused the ruling BJP of pursuing “politics of intimidation” in West Bengal after its Baruipur Purba MLA Bibhas Sardar was allegedly attacked.
The former ruling party in the state alleged that Mr. Sardar was attacked on Saturday (October 10) night when he was returning home in Joynagar in South 24 Parganas district after attending a party programme.

“BJP’s politics of intimidation stands exposed once again! The brutal attack on Shri Bibhas Sardar in Joynagar, accompanied by death threats for his support for ex-CM Mamata Banerjee, raises serious questions about the growing culture of political violence. When political differences are answered with bricks, threats and attempts on someone’s life, DEMOCRACY ITSELF IS UNDER ATTACK. The perpetrators must be identified, and strict action must follow. But will the police take action? That has now become the biggest question since they seem more busy serving their masters than maintaining law and order in the state,” the Mamata AITC said in a social media post.
The party, in a statement on Saturday (October 10) night, said that the attackers had threatened Mr. Sardar, with one of them purportedly telling him, “You have become such a big devotee of Mamata and support her! We will ensure that you are sent to the crematorium.”

Party national general secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee spoke to Mr. Sardar over the phone following the alleged attack, enquired about his health and assured him of all necessary assistance, the party said.
The BJP has denied allegations that its party workers were involved, while police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
