A 45-year-old man allegedly hurled a Molotov cocktail at the house of his maternal uncle following a property dispute at Kalliyam Pudur near Vijayamangalam in Erode on Sunday, October 4, 2026, night.

The police said that Sellamuthu, 61, a welding worker and resident of Mariamman Kovil Street, and his relative Mohan lived in the same locality. Sellamuthu is Mohan’s maternal uncle. According to the police, about 10 years ago, Sellamuthu and his brother Ranganathan acquired a family property at Perur in Salem district after paying ₹5 lakh to Mohan’s mother, Rasammal, as part of the property division.

The police said that Mohan had been quarrelling with Sellamuthu over the issue for the past few days, alleging that his mother had been deceived into parting with the property. On Sunday night, Mohan allegedly hurled a petrol-filled container at Sellamuthu’s house and left the spot. The petrol did not catch fire and no major damage was reported.

Based on a complaint from Sellamuthu, Perundurai police registered a case. Further investigation is under way.
