The Delhi police have arrested a 41-year-old man for allegedly throwing acid at a 24-year-old woman in northeast Delhi’s Jafrabad on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) Rahool Alwal said that the victim, a tenant residing in Ghonda, was on her way to work when the man threw a diluted corrosive liquid on her and fled.
She was initially taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital but was later referred to G.T.B. Hospital due to the severity of her injuries, the police said.
“The accused involved in the incident has been identified and arrested. The victim is under treatment at G.T.B. Hospital and is out of danger,” Mr. Alwal said.
A case under Section 124(1) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid, etc.) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered.
The police have recorded the victim’s statement. According to officials, the accused and the victim knew each other for the past nine months. Further investigation is under way.
