A 60-year-old woman, Muthammal, sustained injuries after her husband allegedly attacked her with acid, in Salem. The husband, Arumugam, 65, was arrested on Wednesday (September 23, 2026).
A resident of Anaikalmedu near Attur, he worked at a sago factory. He would often quarrel with Muthammal over a family dispute, according to the police.
Early Wednesday morning, when Muthammal was asleep in their home, Arumugam woke her up and poured acid over her, which he procured from the sago factory. Muthammal sustained injuries and was admitted to Attur Government Hospital.
The Attur Town police have registered a case and arrested Arumugam.
