BJP general secretary Rama Seenivasan in a complaint filed with the Madurai City Central Crime Branch has alleged that a friend cheated him of ₹50 lakh.
In the complaint, the BJP leader has said he gave ₹50 lakh to his friend Poomaran, a pawn broker, on April 11, 2026, and asked him to hand it over to an architect engaged in the construction of his house. He assigned the task to Poomaran as he was busy with the State Assembly elections being the BJP candidate for Madurai South Assembly constituency.
The same night. Poomaran called his wife from a different mobile number and told her that a few unidentified persons in police uniform had snatched the money from him.
Poomaran, who remained incommunicado for sometime, returned but was admitted to a private hospital. Later, he said he was kidnapped by some persons in a car. They snatched the money and later dumped him. He promised to return the money by May 12, but had failed to do so, the complaint said.
Based on Seenivasan’s complaint against Poomaran, his brother Madhavan and others, the Crime Branch police have registered a case for criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy.
