A man was booked by the Hyderabad Traffic Police for allegedly allowing his 11-year-old son to drive a luxury sports car on the Outer Ring Road (ORR). Police took the action after the video footage of the incident became viral on social media.
The vehicle owner, Mohammed Abdul Hadi, was booked after police traced an MG Cyberster bearing registration number TG 07 AR 6111, being driven by the minor on the Rajendranagar stretch of the ORR.
According to the police, action was initiated after complaints were received regarding a child driving the vehicle on the high-speed corridor. A video that surfaced on social media showed the convertible sports car being driven with its roof down while the boy was behind the wheel and his father was seated in the passenger seat.
The footage, which is alleged to have been recorded in March, was filmed by passing commuters who questioned the driver’s age and shared the video online.
Following complaints and circulation of the video, the traffic police formed a special team to identify the vehicle and verify its ownership. After tracing the vehicle, police seized it and registered a case against the owner for permitting a minor to drive.
Police reiterated that allowing minors to operate motor vehicles is a serious violation that endangers not only the child but also other road users. They appealed to parents and guardians not to hand over vehicles to underage children and warned that strict action would be taken against such violations.
